Police: Car theft suspect rescued from river in Bay City
A water rescue for a car theft suspect took place in Bay City Tuesday along the Saginaw River.
It happened just before 5 p.m. along the eastern bank of the river north of James Clements Airport.
Bay County 911 reports a suspect in a stolen vehicle jumped into the river to avoid police.
The suspect crashed the stolen car into a tree on the river bank near Harrison and 41st Streets.
The Coast Guard was called to assist in the rescue of the suspect, But it was Bay City police who eventually pulled him from the river.
There has been no word yet on the suspect’s identity.
The man who the Bay County Sheriff says is in his early 40's was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The sheriff says the suspect is expected to be arraigned Wednesday and could likely face charges of possessing a stolen vehicle and fleeing and eluding.
