Police close investigation into Flint girl's death

Police say they're closing the case of a 10-year-old Flint girl found slain in 2001 because the person they believe is responsible has died.

Cierra Nelson disappeared in November 2000. Police, federal authorities and volunteers searched for the girl. Her body was found several months later in Mount Morris Township, near Flint.

A suspect's name wasn't immediately released.

The Flint Violent Crime Task Force re-evaluated the case Thursday and decided to close the case.

Police say they followed up on hundreds of tips and eliminated several possible suspects.
