      Porch shooting victim's parents respond

The parents of a 19-year-old woman shot in the face on the porch of a suburban Detroit home can't imagine their daughter posed a threat to the man charged in her death.

Walter Ray Simmons and Monica McBride spoke publicly Friday after 54-year-old Theodore Wafer was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Renisha McBride on Wafer's Dearborn Heights porch.

Police say the Nov. 2 shooting happened a couple of hours after McBride was involved in a nearby car accident. Family members say she likely was seeking help.

Defense attorney Matt Carpenter says the pre-dawn hour and McBride's condition contribute to his client's "very strong defense." A toxicology report found alcohol and marijuana in her system.

Monica McBride says she "can't imagine" what Wafer would have feared.
