Prematurity Awareness Month: Local twin toddlers thriving after small start
Saginaw, Mich-- Jack and Brooklyn Fiting have met all their milestones despite have a small start.
When they were born they were only three pounds each. Their mother Julie had them seven weeks early.
"I had IVF then got pregnant with twins. Everything was normal until my water broke early," said their mother Julie Fiting.
Fiting says her twins spent more than a month in Covenant Healthcare's NICU. The unit provides 24 hour care and helps babies in 17 counties throughout the state.
Fiting says it's the staff's support that got her through a tough time.
"They were always there to support me emotionally and help when I didn't know what to do next," says fiting.
Erin Vanloo has worked at the hospital for 24 years and says they've only improved their care of the years, in part due to funding through Covenant Kids.
It's fund that has a raised more than $1,000,000 for pediatric care for patients and families in the last seven years.
