A program funded by the General Motors Foundation has awarded $4.2 million in scholarships.
Among the 2013 Buick Achievers Scholarship recipients is Justin Sorum, a dean's list student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.
Sorum is studying transportation design and plans to pursue a career in the automotive industry. He's among 76 student recipients in Michigan and 1,100 across the country to be awarded scholarships through Buick Achievers.
He'll receive scholarship funds up to $25,000 - renewable for four years - in recognition of his classroom excellence.
The scholarships are for those looking at careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, information technology and other fields important to the car industry.
