Proposed changes to Flint's medical marijuana ordinance

The Flint City Council is considering changes to its medical marijuana ordinance.

The changes would require the city's nine medical marijuana dispensaries to be at least 1,000 feet away from any church, school or park. The current ordinance requires medical marijuana dispensaries be at least 500 feet away.

The council held a public hearing Monday night, though no one came forward.

The city's planning commission will make a recommendation on the ordinance and send the measure back to the city council.

â??It took us a while to develop this ordinance but I think its an ordinance which complies with the state law that allows them to have it but it still gives us some regulation as to where theyâ??re located and how many will be located in the city of Flint,â?? council president Scott Kincaid said.

If the ordinance is approved, dispensaries fewer than 1,000 feet away from a church, school or park would have 45 days to find a new location.
