Proposed condos in downtown Grand Blanc raise concerns

A proposal for condo-style apartments in Grand Blanc didn't get the thumbs up from the planning commission Tuesday night.
Dozens of people raised concerns about a plan to build a 14-unit building behind the Starbucks building, off of Saginaw Street, next to the Indian Hill subdivision.
Residents, mostly of the Indian Hill subdivision, brought up concerns about increased traffic in the area and property values going down.
After listening to comments, the planning commission decided to not recommend a special land use permit to the developer.
"I think what the city saw tonight was that the subdivision that's a jewel of Grand Blanc is full of people that still care about Grand Blanc and want to see the right thing done not just for the subdivision but for the Grand Blanc area,â?? Indian Hill resident Alan Himelhoch said.
Council will meet Wednesday to consider the site plan.
The same developer, A.F. Jonna Development and Management Company, plans to demolish the vacant Citgo gas station downtown and build a retail building in its place.
