Flint City Councilman Eric Mays, who was arrested over the weekend on charges of drunk driving, will stay in office for now.
Mays was elected to the Flint City Council in November by a margin of just 7 votes. Today, the Genesee County Board of Canvassers completed a hand-recount of the ballots.
The hand-count of the ballots not only re-affirmed that Mays won, it gave him another vote, bringing his margin of victory up to 8.
NBC25 spoke to both Flint's Emergency Manager, Darnell Earley, and Flint's Mayor, Dayne Walling, about Mays. Earley told NBC25 that he was conferencing with Governor Rick Snyder's aides today to discuss Mays. Mayor Walling had no comment.
NBC25's Walter Smith-Randolph also spoke with Councilman Mays. Mays said he is not going anywhere and would not talk about the drunken driving charges.
