General Motors has named product chief Mary Barra as new CEO, according to multiple reports.
The current CEO, Dan Akerson, plans to retire.
The General Motors website bio of Barra says she was named Senior Vice President, Global Product Development on February 1, 2011. On August 1, 2013 she took charge of GM's Global Purchasing and Supply Chain organization and given the title of Executive Vice President, Global Product Development and Global Purchasing and Supply Chain.
Barra went to Kettering University in Flint, Michigan back when it was known as the General Motors Institute, getting a Bachleor of Science degree.
Barra is also currently a member of the Kettering University Board of Trustees.
