The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X Windows Phone
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X has a sleek and streamlined design with the Windows operating system.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-Core processor which is extremely fast and also helps with battery life, not to mention the 4G LTE network behind it. It does have 1GB of DDR2 RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
Looking at the device, screen on top, the power/sleep button is right side of the phone, the volume toggle is on the upper right side and charging port is in the center on the bottom under a door cover. On the left side at the top is a 3.5mm headphone jack. The SIM card slot is on the top left side that needs a special tool to open it, which comes with the device, just make sure not to misplace it. The camera button can be found at the lower right hand side of the device. This is an awkward spot for it to sit because it is constantly being pushed whenever holding the phone. Good thing it doesnâ??t hang up on the call when it is hit accidentally.
HTC has taken a new corner of the market with focusing on the audio aspect of their devices. They are focusing on the sound quality for music on their new phones, and this sets them apart from the competition. They have great â??beats audioâ?? features as well as an amplifier that enhances the music and allows the device to deliver bigger better sound from high-end head phones and external speakers.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X has 16GB of internal storage; however, what is actually formatted is going to be about 11GB, give or take a little.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X screen is a 4.3â?? 720p Super LCD2 covered in Gorilla Glass 2. The phone is great with all sort of viewing angles, however it falls short with any sort of sunlight around which makes it hard to see the screen. In its defense, that is the case with most smart phones. The screen color can be changed to help accommodate the sunlight; it can have a white or black background and the text/home screen can run any variety of colors which helps.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X camera is an 8 mega pixel with a single LED flash with Auto Focus. The camera also has HTC ImageClip which is new software that allows for continuous shooting for up to 99 images. The 2.1 mega pixel wide front-facing camera it makes it simple to take pictures as well as video chat with your friends and also includes different resolutions to make it easier to send videos in different formats. An extra feature for the Windows Smartphone is the option to download different lenses for the camera via the Windows Phone Store. There are Smart Shoot, Panorama, and Cinema-graph lenses just to name a few.
Smart-phone users have concluded by now that no matter the phone in use it will have to charge every day. However, with each new phone release the batteries seem to get better and last longer.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X has an 1800mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery. If it is running on Wifi it could last all day easily. However, if it runs on 4G all day it seemed to last about 8 hours before it needed to be charged.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X does have a really awesome feature that allows it to be charged wirelessly but the charging pad is sold separately.
Verizon Wireless HTC 8X is running the latest version the Windows Phone OS. The Windows Phone OS offers features that cannot be found anywhere else. Some of the great features:
- Live Tile - design that gives the latest News, Weather, Status Updates, or anything else that someone would need at a glance. There is an amazing feature to sync Facebook, Twitter, Outlook all to one location so everything can be all found in one place with just one click.
â?? This is a great way to monitor the data usage through the month to make sure that no overages.
- Kidâ??s Corner - Allows Kids to only use the apps/music/games that the parent sees fit.
- Xbox LIVE â?? Windows Phone OS are the only ones to have built in and has one touch access from the home screen.
â?? Allows documents and pictures to be saved in one place and opened up via an app on the device, this saves the limited memory on the phone.
The Windows Phone Store features more than 120,000 apps to pick from with more that are added daily. In order to access the internet/app store/Xbox Live feature a Microsoft email is required. Also make sure that the email is the same one that is tied to the Xbox or that feature will not show up correctly.
There is no MicroSD slot available for adding more memory to the phone. This is where an App such as SkyDrive would come in handy and items can be dropped there and still opened on the device.
Verizon Wireless HTC 8X features Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and has all the same features as the desktop version and also includes a pinch-zoom feature. There is a nice screen shot of bookmarked pages, and they can all be viewed in landscape or vertical configurations. That makes it easy to jump to the favorite pages easily.
The Verizon Wireless HTC 8X is a nice phone right out of the box with a variety of features that cannot be found anywhere else. It is a definite learning curve for someone who is a seasoned Droid or iPhone user. It takes a little bit of patience and time to get used to the change,s but it is a strong, powerful phone with some great potential.
