Rifle stolen from Highland Park chief's vehicle

Detroit police say an AR-15 rifle has been stolen from the Highland Park police chief's vehicle while it was parked outside of a church.

Police Sgt. Michael Woody tells The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press that Chief Kevin Coney was attending a midday church service Sunday and noticed that his Cadillac Escalade had been broken into after coming out of church. Woody says the rifle was taken.

Woody says that investigators are following up on some leads. He says he's "confident that we will get that weapon back."

The Associated Press sent a message Monday seeking comment from Coney.
