Saginaw City Council names deputy city manager as Darnell Earley's temporary replacement

Saginaw City Council appointed Tim Morales as Interim City Manager Monday night.

The Saginaw City Council appointed a familiar face to the city's top administrative post Monday evening. Council members voted unanimously to name Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer, Tim Morales, as outgoing City Manager Darnell Earleyâ??s temporary replacement.

A second favored candidate, former Development Director Odail Thorns, asked council over the weekend to withdraw his name for consideration.

Morales had been serving as acting city manager for the time being and said, as interim city manager, he wanted to have â??more meetings with citizens, just to make sure that the city's message is getting out to the community and make sure that they know the good things that we're doing as well as some of the things that they may see on the news.â??

Itâ??s unclear how long Morales will hold the manager's position before a permanent appointment is made. Council members voted down all motions to bid out a formal city manager search.

Darnell Earley, who was appointed by the state as Flintâ??s new emergency manager, begins his new job Tuesday.
