Saginaw Co. roads mostly clear during late-February snowstorm

Primary roads in Birch Run stayed mostly clear during Friday's snowstorm.

Roads in Saginaw County were kept mostly clear, though they remained slick and wet throughout Friday afternoon.

Saginaw County 911 Dispatch Director Tom McIntyre said about 50 accidents were reported since 6 a.m. The county road commission said traffic was lighter than usual, due to school closings. The commission sent about 40 trucks to salt and plow roads all morning and afternoon.

Some Mid-Michigan drivers were thrilled to see some wintry weather after a mostly mild season.

Linda Ketelhut of Birch Run said, â??Traffic isn't as bad as what it will be tonight, everyone trying to catch the snow, going up snowmobiling, 'cause we haven't had that great of a winter for it." She was on her way to Houghton Lake Friday afterrnoon.

As temperatures drop and winds pick up at night, authorities are reminding drivers to beware of developing black ice and slippery conditions.
