Saginaw County's animal shelter has a new policy manual after a state investigation. The change comes after the Michigan Department of Agricultural and Rural Development fined the shelter more than $16,000.
Saginaw County's Controller said the new manual ensures the shelter is in line with state directives.
"We did a complete overhaul. We involved the staff at the shelter," said County Controller, Robert Belleman. "We involved the Animal Control Advisory Council...we involved the Prosecutor's office to look at every element of this manual."
The previous policy manual was written in 1990.
Belleman also said, they are searching for a new animal control director. So far, the county is reviewing 10 applications.
