A 19-year-old Saginaw man is injured after being shot outside a popular college-age gathering place in Kochville Township.
Police say the 19-year-old victim was shot in the shoulder while waiting in line to get inside the Social Cafe Hookah Lounge.
On the southern corner of this strip mall in Kochville Township the Social Cafe Hookah Lounge serves up flavored tobacco and reportedly caters to the college crowd.
Friday morning around 2:30 things got out of hand when gun shots were fired outside the lounge and struck a 19-year-old in the shoulder.
A woman, who did not wish to be identified, was inside the lounge at the time.
"I guess it just got crazy outside because so many people were coming but they weren't letting no one in. Just big crowd outside," said the woman.
According to the manager of the lounge, their establishment has no connection to the incident.
Louie Kirkus who helps the owner at the Social Cafe Hookah Lounge said a producer from Saginaw had a private event that began at midnight Friday.
Everyone inside, he said, was checked at the door.
"Inside, my customers were safe. Now what goes on outside the street not me or anyone can control that," said Kirkus.
But nearby business owners say that since the lounge moved in, there's been trouble.
"It's hitting too close to home," said Roger Lietzke, owner of the strip mall and Bicycle Village.
He said, "somebody threw a beer bottle into the window the weekend of Memorial Day,"
Police continue to investigate the incident.
They say the suspect is described as a 19-to-21-year-old black male.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Saginaw Central Dispatch at 911 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
