Saginaw police merger plans are on hold

Merger plans for the Saginaw Police and the Saginaw County Sheriff are on hold.

Time is running out on a grant that would help with the cost of merging the Saginaw Police Department with the Saginaw Sheriff's department.

The grant would cover $150,000 of the merger cost.

That propsal is now on hold.

Despite that, the assistant city manager, Phil Ludos, says, "You're seeing municipalities merging operations. Wayne-Westland merged its fire department. Those are the kind of things we have to start looking at if we're going to survive tihs economic downturn."

The grant expires at the end of April.
