Sculptures starting to take shape at Frankenmuth's Snowfest

it's hard to believe that 20 years have passed since Zehnder's Snowfest came to Frankenmuth.

More than 80,000 visitors filled Main Street for the snow and ice festival in 1992.

Zehnder's estimates that close to two million visitors have traveled to see the international snow and ice sculpture competition.

Plans for this year's Snowfest will include a 100-block ice sculpture depicting the 20th anniversary theme -- the Roaring 20s.

Young visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, inflatables, pony rides and an ice sculpted putt-putt golf course. The warming tent features plenty of hot and cold beverages and food plus nightly entertainment.

Snowfest kicks off today with Michigan's Best Apple Pie and Favorite Recipe contests.

There will also be a fireworks show at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
