Shootings have Michigan State University, 2 elementary schools on lockdown

A suspect in two shootings in East Lansing today has given himself up, according to a report from WILX in Lansing.

After a standoff with police, the suspect surrendered at 3:15 pm.

In addition to the Rite Aid employee who was shot and killed earlier today, a second victim from a second shooting on Coolidge has also died.

The suspect has not yet been arraigned.

A Rite Aid employee is dead after one of the shootings that has left Michigan State University on lockdown.

Police describe the suspect in the shooting as a black man around 30 years old, between 5' 8" and 5' 10" tall. He was wearing all black and carrying a black bag.

There is no word yet if this shooting is related to a second shooting that also took place in East Lansing today.

More schools are now on lockdown, this time in the Lansing School District. Fairview, Pattengill and Lansing Catholic are all locked down at this time.

WILX in Lansing is reporting that Michigan State University along with two elementary schools are under lockdown right now because of two shootings.

Police are investigating the two shootings that happened near the Frandor shopping area.

MSU has sent an email to students instructing them to secure-in-place in a locked room or evacuate if they are able to do so safely.

Pinecrest and Glencairn Elementary Schools are also on lockdown.
