Sixteen-year-old latest homicide victim in Flint

A makeshift memorial is set up outside the RIver Park Apartments where a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday.

Flint police have not yet named the 16-year-old who was killed Sunday morning at River Park Apartments but family members tell NBC25 he was Marquis Griffin, known to friends as Marty.

"He was a very good young man and a nice young man,â?? one neighbor described Marty.

Messages to Marty scrawled on the sides of buildings remind the community of a life taken too soon.

"Makes me feel real sad because thereâ??s a lot of shooting and killing, these young folks running around here killing one another and its very sad you know what Iâ??m saying? The violence needs to stop,â?? another said.

The 16-year-oldâ??s death comes at the end of a violent week, during which seven people were gunned down, leaving residents shaking their heads.

Friends and family members left messages to the teen who was reportedly trying his best to get his life back on track.

"He was doing better, trying to better himself by going back to school. It's a very tragic situation and heâ??s going to be loved and much missed,â?? a neighbor said.
