Republican Governor Rick Snyder says a one-year delay of a requirement of the new health care law won't affect his push to expand Medicaid coverage to more adults in Michigan.
Medicaid expansion legislation is pending in a committee of the Republican-controlled Michigan Senate.
Snyder said Wednesday the larger issue remains uninsured people going to the emergency room and the uncompensated costs being passed along to businesses and individuals paying insurance premiums. Snyder says covering more uninsured with Medicaid will save money.
The Obama administration on Tuesday announced a 1-year delay of the employer mandate that requires companies with 50 or more full-time employees to offer coverage or face fines.
The delay in the employer requirement doesn't affect a provision requiring individuals to carry health insurance next year or face fines.
