Snyder: Natural gas key to new energy policy

Gov. Rick Snyder has released a new energy and environmental policy blueprint that calls for stepped-up production of natural gas in Michigan.
The Republican governor released his new plan Wednesday. He tells The Associated Press that Michigan has an abundance of natural gas and needs a regulatory framework and infrastructure that encourages the industry.
He says it's too early to say whether the state should require greater development of renewable sources such as wind and solar energy. Voters this month rejected a ballot initiative that would have required utility companies to generate 25 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
Instead, Snyder says his administration will study the matter and make recommendations by 2015, when companies will have to produce 10 percent of their power from renewables.
