Some Michigan schools cancel classes amid weather

Some Michigan school districts are canceling classes for the day because of wintry weather conditions that have brought icy road conditions.

In the Flint area, most Genesee County schools are reported closed Friday because of weather conditions. In the southeastern portion of the state, closings are reported in counties including Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Washtenaw, St. Clair and Lenawee.

Strong winds and some snow are forecast in parts of the state. That follows a mix of rain and snow on Thursday that left roads slippery.

In the Upper Peninsula, blizzard conditions are predicted in places after several inches of snow Thursday. School closings are reported in parts of the U.P. as well.
