Soup kitchen feeds thousands more this year compared to last

Saginaw's East Side Soup Kitchen kicks off its annual "stuff-a-bus" donation drive.
The organization is collecting nonperishable food items for its after-school meal program. Organizers say the need is greater than ever before.
"It seems like food is coming out of the soup kitchen faster than what we can bring it in right now so anything anybody can do will really help us out and I always say when everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot," says Director Pam Cole.
The after-school meals program feeds an average of 300 children per day.
Donations are being accepted at the Green Acres Plaza at the corner of state and Hemmeter in Saginaw Township.
Among the needs are fruit and pudding cups, drinks, packaged cookies, and canned goods.
The drive continues Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
