Special election called to fill 49th state House seat

State Capitol in Lansing.

Governor Rick Snyder has called for a special election to fill the 49th District seat vacated by former state Rep. Jim Ananich.

Ananich beat Republican Roger Daunt in the May 7, 2013 special election to fill former state Senator John Gleason's seat.

According to a press release from the governor's office Snyder says, "This special election will ensure area residents have the full representation in the Legislature as quickly as possible while coinciding with certain previously scheduled elections to help ensure minimized financial burdens to local communities in the district."

The special election will be Tuesday, Nov. 5. A primary election would be Aug. 6, if necessary.
