Standoff in City of Saginaw ends peacefully

Saginaw police say that a standoff that took place yesterday evening has ended with a suspect in custody.

At about 4:30 pm yesterday, officials say, central dispatch received a phone call about a 29-year-old white male that was threatening to kill the mother of his 3-year-old child with a gun. He also threatened the child.

Making the situation more difficult, police say, the suspect had the child in his custody at the time of the phone call.

The Saginaw police went to where the call originated from, on the 1300 block of Union Street near North Oakley Street.

Police attempted to contact the suspect via a PA system.

At about 6 am, police say a family member was able to assist police in getting the suspect to surrender.

The 3-year-old was safe. The suspect was taken into custody.

Police were unable to locate a gun.

The suspect has been turned over to Arenac County for prior warrants.
