Saginaw County has declared a state of emergency due to storms and flooding .
According to Board Chairman Mike Hanley, "Although the flood waters have moved beyond crest stage, damage to property continues ...and we're not able to asess the damage until flood waters recede".The Titabawassee and Saginaw Rivers are causing some areas to experience high water: flooding basements and streets.
Hanley says it's made the declaration in advance of applying for state and federal assistance.
Saginaw County residents should call 989-790-5202 or -5243 to report damage. Anyone with a flood emergency should call 9-1-1.
Some advise from Saginaw County:
-never use generators, grills or other gas-burning devices inside.
-don't let children play in floodwater.
-use extra caution when driving through floodwater.
