Suspect identified in 13-year-old Marquette cold case

It's been 13 years since a 24-year-old Upper Peninsula woman's slain body was found in Negaunee Township, but authorities have not given up hope of making an arrest.

Marquette City Detective Capt. Gordon Warchock tells The Mining Journal of Marquette ( ) that police have a suspect, but not enough evidence to make an arrest in the slaying of Erin Rebecca Taylor. Her body was found on Aug. 20, 2000, by a Marquette County Sheriff's deputy.

Investigators believe she was strangled in her home and her body taken to the wooded area.

Dozens of witnesses have been interviewed in the years since, including a man who met Taylor online and planned to meet her at a hotel the night she was killed. Investigators cleared the man.
