A man who police believed was responsible for a bank robbery in Meridian Township yesterday was found dead after a chase by police.

At about 2:30 yesterday afternoon the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office and the Bancroft Police Department were in pursuit of a bank robbery suspect. The chase went down I-69 to Grand River where police say the suspect lost control of the vehicle and went into the median.

The suspect then ran on foot into a wooded area west of Scribner Road and south of Grand River Road in Shiawassee Township.

Police tracked the suspect through the snow to a deer blind. At 10:30 pm the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team was deployed. They found the suspect inside the deer blind, dead, having apparently committed suicide.

The suspect will not be identified publicly until the family has been notified.
