Suspended driver kills off-duty officer, dad to 5

Southeastern Michigan authorities say a man driving on a suspended license turned left in front of an off-duty police officer on a motorcycle, killing the 33-year-old father of five.

Police say New Baltimore police Officer Patrick Wisniewski was fatally injured Sunday night in Macomb County's Chesterfield Township. They say he was wearing a helmet.

The car's 64-year-old driver remains hospitalized Monday with non-life threatening injuries, and police told The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens they expected to charge him.

New Baltimore police Chief Timothy Wiley says that Wisniewski was a reserve officer and was about to start working fulltime.

Wiley also says that Wisniewski had just left his shift as a military police officer at Selfridge Air Base when he was killed.
