Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire on Flint's south side late Wednesday night. Two people narrowly escaped; one of them went to the hospital..
The dog woke me up, and I came onto the porch, and the porch was on fire, Rosco Holifield described. He says that TMs all he remembers when his house at 2034 Stanford Avenue went up in flames. His housemate, Florence Gray, was sleeping inside at the time. Neighbors helped get her out safely.
"I had to just drag her, and it was a good thing, 'cause she was down low, and smoke was everywhere, Holifield said.
Next door neighbor Janice Ayers watched in disbelief. You could hear the burning - the fire blazing up real high, she said.
Fire investigators were on scene Wednesday, trying to figure out what exactly happened. Details are limited, but witnesses say it appears the fire started outside the home.
"The fire started right there on the front porch, right under that big window, Holifield explained that TMs why he thinks the fire is suspicious.
It had to be a target."
The fire left him homeless, but neighbors say it could have been a lot worse.
Thank God that I TMm safe, and my family's safe, and they're safe. That's what it's about, Ayers said.
