Saginaw Valley State University President Eric Gilbertson announced his intent to retire at Tuesday's Board of Control meeting.
Gilberston told the board he will step down once the board finds a replacement. Gilbertson joined the university in 1989, making him the longest-serving leader among Michiganâ??s current public university presidents.
He is credited with helping SVSU's campus triple in size and advancing private fundraising.
Gilbertson said he plans to return to SVSU after a sabbatical and teach.
