Tall Ship set to arrive in Bay City

The tall ships are coming to town in Bay City, with most of them arriving tomorrow. The first of the ships, the Appledore V has already arrived.

The Schooner is one of twelve tall ships that will be in town over the weekend.

Its homeport is Bay City and it first launched in 1992. The ship is used as a sail training vessel around the Great Lakes.

The ship is returning from a voyage to Florida. It's most recent stop was Ohio for another tall ship event.

All week reporter Drew Moore and photojournalist Ben Lalonde have been on board with the tall ship Dennis Sullivan as it sails to Bay City.

As part of their continuing coverage, they tell us of how the tall ships of yesteryear helped shape the future of the Great Lakes region hundreds of years ago.

Ben looks at what it took to build one of those tall ships, and how these tall ships helped build cities and towns across the Great Lakes.

"Well if you consider that if you look at the big cities Cleveland, Toledo, Buffalo, Toronto, Milwaukee, Chicago, Duluth, they are all here because of boats like this," said project historian Joe Ewing.

Stay tuned to NBC25/FOX66 for the tall ship arrival, including Drew's and Ben arrival aboard the Dennis Sullivan.
