TeenQuest Program Works to Reduce Unemployment

TeenQuest training program graduates 260 students at a ceremony in Flint.

Many Genesee County teens will now have more job skills for the future.

Approximately 260 graduated Thursday night from the TeenQuest program at the Riverfront Banquet Center.

The Flint and Genesee County Chamber of Commerce runs the five week training course. Instructors say teen unemployment is at record high levels and the program is really making a difference throughout the community.

"It prepares them for the work place, so it gives them that sense of expectations that employers have that will help them not only get a job but keep that job," said Rhetta Hunyady with the Flint and Genesee Chamber of Commerce.

More than 700 teens graduated from the program this year.

TeenQuest is required for employment through the Summer Youth Initiative, which pairs teens with employers for summer jobs in Genesee County.
