The last of the Carpenter Road Apartments scheduled for demolition

The apartments, say city officials, are a hazard to the local community.

The last remaining Carpenter Road Apartments buildings are now scheduled for demolition.

On Tuesday, November 19, the final three buildings, which have been standing for more than 50 years, are expected to be torn down, with many area officials present.

The apartments are located on 1411 W. Carpenter Road, across from Flint Northwestern High School. The City of Flint says the buildings are a hazard to the community and the nearby school.

The buildings have sat vacant for more than 2 years, when the City of Flint shut them down. Now, however, thanks to the Michigan Blight Elimination Grant, the buildings can finally be removed.

The plan after demolition, according to a release from the City of Flint, is to plant clover so that little maintenance will be required on the lot in the future.

Among those scheduled to appear at the kickoff of the demolition is Flint Mayor Dayne Walling, County Treasurer Deb Cherry, Omar Sims, and Eric Mays.
