Thousands without power in Grand Blanc Township

*** UPDATE 1:00 pm ***

Power has been fully restored in Grand Blanc Township according to Consumers Energy. Genesys is now accepting ambulances again.

Still no word on what caused the outage in the first place.

Traffic is currently backing up near the Holly and I-75 Interchange. The lack of power means that street lights are not working, which has slowed traffic.

Thousands of residents in Grand Blanc Township are without power.

According to Consumers Energy, a substation was locked out around 10:30 a.m. leaving 2,606 residents in the dark.

The affected area is between Fenton Rd., on the west, and South Saginaw St.; and just south of East Hill Rd., to the north, and East Baldwin Rd. to the South.

Genesys Regional Medical Center is also being affected by the outage. The hospital is currently running on back up generators.

There is no word yet on what caused the substation to go down.

Consumers Energy is estimating power will be restored to the area around 2:45 p.m.
