"Tire scavenger hunt" collects thousands of scrap tires

Love Your City events keep rolling in Flint.

Flint Police along with city officials collected tires for free Satruday at the Flint Parks and Forestry shop.

People who brought more than 25 tires received $25.

Scrap tires are a big problem in Flint but after the tire scavenger hunt collection, officials say they put a big dent in this environmental issue.

"When we first started we expected a lot but we didn't expect people to bring 400 at a time themselves we had one crew that rented a UHAUL just to bring in tires," said Jason Lorenz, Public Information Officer with the City of Flint.

In total they gave out $5,000.

The event was funded by grant money.
