Tow truck employee killed by drunk driver, employer sends warning on distracted driving
SAGINAW, Mich. - A tow truck driver was killed while on duty last night in Saginaw County, police say he was hit by someone under the influence.
Bill Giorgis, the owner of Mike’s Wrecker Service, is still in shock after tragically losing one of his longtime tow truck drivers, Thomas Tripp, Wednesday night.
It's a foreign situation for him and his staff, the company hadn't lost an employee in its entire 62-year history.
A 49-year-old drunk driver from Bridgeport changed that when she struck Tripp on Zelle Drive near Dixie Highway as he loaded a car onto a flatbed.
41-year-old Tripp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Giorgis says this is a lesson for drivers to follow the law and move a lane over when they see flashing red, blue or amber lights.
