A suburban Detroit community's treasurer shut down her office early for a day, blaming political issues and notifying residents with a sign posted at the township hall.
The Oakland Press of Pontiac and The Detroit News report that people going Oct. 9 to Treasurer Teri Weingarden's office in West Bloomfield Township found a handwritten note that read: "Closed due to Political Issues. Sorry for the inconvenience."
The Oakland County community's board is expected to discuss the issue Monday night.
Weingarden says "things had built up" so she shut the office, which also has six staff members. She says she decided to send everyone home and "come back fresh the next day."
Township Clerk Catherine Shaughnessy says Weingarden "had a meltdown." Shaughnessy says the office is "a mess" and she's concerned.
