Two taken to hospital after fire at Boulder Creek apartments in Burton

A mother and a child were taken to the hospital after their kitchen caught on fire early Wednesday morning at the Boulder Creek apartments.

Burton Deputy FIre Chief Ken Gould informed NBC25 just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning that the two were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The fire has been put out and no additional injuries were reported.

The fire occurred around 1 a.m. and crews from Burton and Grand Blanc fire departments responded to the scene.

Neighbors broke windows to get a young mother and her three year old daughter out of the apartment.

"We started panicking and we got to knocking on everyone's doors," said Diearion Wood, who was visiting a friend that lives in the building.

"I saw the baby but I couldn't reach her so I went in and grabbed her and pulled her out," said tenant Shannon Hightower.

The young mother and her child were treated for smoke inhalation and at last check were in stable condition.

The cause of the fire and the status of the mother and child are still unknown.
