The American Cancer Society reports that one in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives.
That TMs why the Great Lakes Division is inviting residents in both Flint and Saginaw to an event this weekend, to help find a cure for the disease.
Two Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks will be held Saturday.
There will be a walk in Flint starting at the Flat Lot on Saginaw Street downtown. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the walk will start at 9:00 a.m.
At the same time, Saginaw residents are invited to a walk beginning at Krossroads Park. Registration for this event starts at 8:00 a.m., and this walk will also commence at 9:00 a.m.
The American Cancer Society says the purpose of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks is to bring awareness to the deadly form of cancer, encourage women to get mammograms, and to raise money for research.
During the NBC25 Today Show Friday, Elizabeth MacFarland spoke with a cancer survivor. Hear her story on why she feels it is important to participate in this event and bring awareness to the cause in the video above.
