Some local union workers have a bone to pick with the company behind the renovation of two historical buildings in Saginaw.
More than two dozen members of the Laborers Local 1098 protested outside the Bancroft and Eddy buildings, saying the new owner is using out-of-state workers.
The buildings at the corner of Genesee and Washington are owned by Bancroft Project Saginaw LLC, a company created after the two properties were sold to Ohio-based Lakeshore Management.
"We're watching every project around this area,â?? union member Chris Taylor said. â??We want to make sure that our guys get out there and get the job done right and safe and on time,â?? he added.
Bancroft Project Saginaw LLC is investing about $5 million to renovate the buildings into luxury apartments and retail space.
Luann Stockfleth, Bancroft Project Saginaw LLC project manager, released a statement in response. She wrote, "We have hired local residents on this project and we are committed to creating long term employment for the local economy.â??
