Wednesday, February 9, 2011:

Rescue crews continue their search for a missing elderly man who was last seen Tuesday afternoon in Midland County's Edenville Township.

Police are using a helicopter, rescue boats, divers, and other equipment to find 62-year-old Bob Cole. Officials from the Michigan State Police, the Midland County Sheriff's Department, and other township fire departments are combining forces in the search.

Cole coaches cross country and track at Meridian Schools in Sanford, where he retired as a teacher.

Both cole and his dog are missing. Rescue crews believe he could have slipped and fallen into the Tittabawassee River.

"The cold out here is extreme. The snow with the high banks, that combination is not good for anyone," says John Card, Post Commander for the Michigan State Police in Bay City.

Rescue crews are encouraging people not to look for Bob Cole on their own, but rather join the command center at the Swanton Memorial Center on Water Road in Edenville Township if they want to help.
