US-23 shut down for several hours after deadly crash in Fenton
FENTON, Mich. – Police in Genesee County and emergency crews were on the scene of a deadly crash on US-23 just after Silver Lake Road exit.
The crash happened just before noon on Friday, Feb.9.
According to police, a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, which was slowing behind other traffic, was rear-ended by a semi-truck driven by a 54-year-old Flatrock man, who was unable to stop. The crash resulted in the semi coming to a stop on top of the Chevrolet Cruze.
The collision caused a chain reaction with the Cruze being pushed forward hitting a commercial van which was then rear-ended a semi-tractor trailer which then rear-ended another semi-trailer.
Police say the 33-year-old Clio woman driving the Chevrolet Cruze, died from her injuries.
The driver of the commercial van, a 44-year-old North Branch man was taken to an area hospital.
Police say no other persons were injured in the crash.
Police had northbound US-23 is shut down for several hours as they investigated the scene.
