"I've seen a lot of floods. Worst one i've seen was 1986."
Dave Grimshaw is a lifelong Vassar resident. He says current conditions do not compare with flooding from more than 20 years ago.
"I've seen nothing like that since. This isn't even close. They were running the sheriff department motor boat out Cass Avenue to rescue people. The water was that deep on the streets right in town," says Grimshaw.
After days of recent heavy rain, the town is comparatively dry.
Residents credit downtown improvements made through the years.
"Kind of re-routed the water a little bit. There's a big holding pond which slows it up some too. yeah they made quite a big of improvements," says Jeff Bradley.
