Yellow Ribbon Guard gears up for "Send Santa to the Troops" care package drive
Bay City, Mich-- For more than a decade the Yellow Ribbon Guard has provided military troops overseas with care packages around the holidays.
Some years the organization fills up to 1,500 boxes to be sent to those who are deployed.
It's apart of their annual Send Santa to the Troops event.
"Some people don't get packages on Christmas and it's a sad thing to see. We want to make sure soldiers know they are appreciated," said Saginaw Postmaster, Carrie Downing."
The majority of the donations come from local businesses and community members in the Bay Region, including the Saginaw Medical Federal Credit Union.
When workers from the bank found out about what the Yellow Ribbon Guard was doing six years ago they vowed to help out ever since.
" Anything that supports our troops and puts a smile on our servicemen and women's faces is something we want to be involved with." said Saginaw Medical Federal Credit Union Marketing Assistant , Nancy Jackson."
The Saginaw Medical Federal Credit Union will hosts a care package drive on Friday November 4th from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at it's location at 1430 Michigan Avenue in Saginaw.
If you would like a list of other drop off locations and events you can contact the Yellow Ribbon Guard directly.
There are also volunteer opportunities for those who enjoy packing up the boxes that will eventually be shipped off.
