5.3 magnitude earthquake hits off Southern California coast
WASHINGTON (Circa) -- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake has hit 35 miles southwest of Channel Islands, Beach, Calif., according to the USGS.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake occurred at 12:29 p.m. about 38 miles (61 kilometers) southwest of the mainland city of Ventura.
There are no immediate reports of damage.
The quake affected parts of South California including the Los Angeles area. Many people who felt the quake reacted to the sudden movement on Twitter.
Twitter user @TomHall described it as "not too strong but long and rolling."
