The PGA TOUR Wives Association stopped by the Whaley Children's Center in Flint to volunteer with the children.
"It's nice to come and get involved with children directly," Shauna Matteson said. "Our goal today is to have fun, laugh and make some smiles."
Shauna Matteson is the wife to professional golfer Troy Matteson who is competing in the 2009 Buick Open tournament at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc. Shauna is one of the nine ladies with the PGA TOUR Wives Assoc. who stopped by Whaley's in hopes to make a difference.
"This is the first time the PGA TOUR Wives have been out and we're getting ready to do a tree planting and small project with the kids," Tricia Reinhard, interim president and CEO for Whaley Children's Center said.
Dowd Keith, fianc to pro golfer Webb Simpson says, "we just like to go to whatever tournament we're at and give to the community in anyway that we can."
The players wives also helped the children decorate keepsake flower pots and two giant pots that will be auctioned off in October at the Whaley's Fundraising Gala.
The wives helped the kids plant a tree presented by the Buick Open.
The Whaley's Children Center assists the Buick Open each year, operating the tournament's "Will Call" office. Since 1982, various southeast Michigan charities have received more than $10 million from funds raised by the Buick Open, and in turn, many of the charitable organizations provide volunteer help by handling such activities as transportation and ticket sales.
