MIDLAND, MI--Community leaders came together on Jan.26 in Midland to discuss the rise in opiate use both locally and around the nation. The Opiate Use Round Table was held in the Commissioner's Chambers and was open to the public. It centered around what can be done to curb opiate use and abuse. Several departments spoke including Midland's prosecuting attorney's office , Midland 's Sheriff's office and local EMS who are all affected by opiate abuse. Some of suggestions include limiting the amount of drugs given to patients after surgery and going after the big prescription drug companies. The meeting was requested by Congressman John Moolenaar. He will compile what he learned in hopes of addressing the opiate crisis.
