Viral video shows contaminated rice at Pennsylvania Dollar General store
SNOW SHOE, Pa. (WJAC) – A video posted on Facebook that shows some type of bug crawling around in a bag of rice is getting attention from thousands of people in Centre County.
The video was posted to Facebook by Mark Rusnak on Saturday. It had been shared almost 45,000 times as of Tuesday night.
In the post, Rusnak said the video was taken at the Dollar General store in Snow Shoe.
6 News spoke with some customers to see how they felt about the viral video.
"I'm not surprised, it. It could happen anywhere," customer Ted Bisel said.
Dollar General released the following statement:
“We strive to provide safe, quality products for our customers. We are working with our vendor and store teams to investigate the concerns raised regarding Clover Valley rice and to determine the root cause of the issue. In the meantime, we have instructed the Snow Shoe store to remove the product from our shelves. We apologize for any concern or inconvenience this issue may have caused our customers."
"It's pretty disappointing. As a consumer, you want to know that you're getting good quality food," customer Allen Marker said.
While most are disappointed, some said things like this can't be blamed on the store itself.
"It isn't the store's fault. It's probably whoever packed the rice up," Bisel said.
"I just purchase the things I need here and usually it's stuff like detergent and stuff like that," a customer said.
Dollar General said the particular bags of rice and all rice of that brand have been removed from the shelves at the store in Snow Shoe.
