Man accused of killing Oakland County deputy back in court
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The Macomb County man accused of running down an Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy last Thanksgiving was back in court this afternoon.
Christopher Barek is charged with first degree premeditated murder and murder of a peace officer in the death of Deputy Eric Overall.
The prosecutor says just hours before Overall's death, Barek was angry after being pulled over in Shelby Township.
So, he recorded a message on his phone before driving to the Lapeer County Law Enforcement Complex.
The prosecution alleges it was this recording that shows Barek, was deliberately targeting Deputy Overall.
The judge decided there is enough evidence to send this case to trial in circuit court on both murder counts, but so far no trial date has been set.
